Our guest blogger this month is Laura Garland, PA at ObGyn Specialists, explains the role of Physician Assitant, what she does here at OGS to help our patients.
Physician Assistants are nationally certified and state licensed medical professionals. They practice on health care teams with physicians and other health care providers. In my role at OBGYN Specialists, I collaborate with the physicians to provide appropriate health care for all patients in the practice. Occasionally, I will assist the physicians in the hospital, either by doing rounds on patients or in the operating room.
Additional time is allotted in my schedule for annual exams and concerns, first visits in the gynecology office, and contraceptive counsel. I am trained to do procedures such as IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removals. I am also able to treat patients with infections, menstrual, urinary, hormonal, menopausal, breast, pelvic, and infertility concerns.
I have a special interest and training to care for women of all ages with incontinence and pelvic support issues. I can fit and instruct women on Pessary use for pelvic support problems and also train women on the FDA approved Apex M device to manage urge and stress incontinence. Because I do not have to leave the office for deliveries, my office schedule is a bit more flexible than the physician schedules. Please contact our office to see if a visit with me would be appropriate for your medical needs.
