About Dr. Caroline Haakenson:
Dr. Caroline Haakenson was always interested in a career in medicine. She thought she would become an infectious disease researcher until she completed a Luce Fellowship at the Perinatal HIV Prevention Trial in Chiang Mai, Thailand, before applying to medical school. While in medical school, she was immediately interested in women’s health; after her surgical rotation, she realized she wanted to practice both medicine and surgery. Obstetrics and Gynecology allow her to care for women throughout their lives, at some of the most important moments in their lives.
After six years in practice, Dr. Haakenson has joined ObGyn Specialists because she sees it as a group of physicians who deeply care about women and women’s health issues, and who also care about each other and strive to maintain work-life balance in a challenging field. This career brings her immense satisfaction. She reads medical journals in her free time because she enjoys thinking about new ideas and skills she can incorporate into her practice. She dreams about complex surgeries and wakes up excited to take on each case.
Dr. Haakenson’s personal life is just as fulfilling as her professional life. She is married with three sons and a baby daughter. She loves to watch her children play soccer, run track and enjoy the great outdoors. She and her family live on a lake, and they love to kayak, play water sports, fish, swim and just sit on the dock. The Haakenson family, even the littlest ones, take many hikes. Dr. Haakenson is currently training for the 2017 Twin Cities Marathon, which will be the sixth marathon she’s run.
